Largest Cities: Oakland, Fremont, Hayward, and Berkeley
Oakland is the county’s largest city, with approximately 430,000 residents. Fremont ranks second, followed by Hayward and Berkeley. These four cities are the only incorporated cities in Alameda County with populations above 100,000 in this estimate.
Cities With 40,000 to 90,000 Residents
Seven cities have between 40,000 and 90,000 residents: San Leandro, Livermore, Alameda, Pleasanton, Dublin, Union City, and Newark. San Leandro and Livermore are the largest cities in this group, followed by Alameda. Pleasanton and Dublin have similar population totals, while Union City and Newark have smaller populations.
Smallest Cities: Albany, Emeryville, and Piedmont
Albany, Emeryville, and Piedmont are the county’s three smallest incorporated cities by population. Albany has just over 20,000 residents, Emeryville has approximately 13,600, and Piedmont has approximately 10,800.
